Bacciana Annesso is 1.2km from the incomparable hill town of Montone, photographed (above) from the house. It is within walking distance - a round trip to buy fresh bread or pastries and pause for coffee takes about an hour on foot. Montone has several very good restaurants, two bars, various small shops including a butcher, bakery, grocery stores and a greengrocer, a pharmacy and a post office. The friendly, working town of Umbertide is just ten minutes to the south by car and has an excellent supermarket, more restaurants and a full range of services. Fifteen minutes to the north is the walled town of Città di Castello with an extensive pedestrian area in the centre of the old town and a weekly outdoor market.
The location of Bacciana Annesso is wonderfully convenient for exploring Tuscany and Umbria. The main north-south highway is only a few minutes away, yet it can neither be seen nor heard from the house. This highway gives quick access to Perugia, the largest city in Umbria, and many other destinations such as Assisi, Spello, Todi, Gubbio, Siena, Arezzo and Sansepolcro. From Arezzo, Florence can be reached by train in under an hour, making it an excellent day trip without parking or traffic worries.
